Looked back and recalled the times, when you were getting things done with ease. Actually, there was some magic, because in those times, you turned around the tedious task into compelling one.

Doing this makes your job more interesting. With this, you are able to accomplish more in a day. However, time likes these may not come very often, so whenever they come, you must evaluate them.

In those times, your mind gets absorbed in the ongoing work. Author calls these times as Hyperfocus, the moment when you completely devote yourself to the work.

No doubt, everyone experiences hyperfocus once in a while, but the questions are what you can do to sustain this period of time? How can you make it more frequent? and How will you turn sometime unsteady and unreliable to trustworthy and reliable?

To know the answer of these questions – let’s start with evaluating the behavior while you are in that mode. In the hyperfocus mode, you sustain your attention on a single task at hand. Simply put, you never do multi-tasking.

Instead of switching project back and forth, you give all your focus to do one thing and leave everything else behind until the ongoing task is completed. Beside this, you avoid distraction as well.

On regular days, when the temptation urges, you just take a tour to you social media accounts. In hyperfocus mode, you do not even entertain these kind of trivial thoughts.

However, you are human, and your mind still wander and crave for social media accounts even in this focused mode. Then, instead of surrendering to these urges, the focused brain makes it easier for you to return back to the current job.

Let’s look briefly the process of hyperfocus, you can divide the process into four stages. So, to enter into the state of hyperfocus, the first stage is to select a single task to concentrate on.

The second step is to wipe out all the external and internal distraction such as daydreaming. This will bring your attention on the ongoing project; you decided to commit.

The last step is to refocus your brain to the running project whenever it drifts.

Hyperfocus is an effective tool that gives you the ability to bring and hold your attention to the current job. However, it’s not sufficient.

As it’s only effective when you preplan the day and schedule the activity you are going to focus on. Without proper planning and the task at hand, hyperfocus is ineffective.

Moreover, the brain’s ability to concentrate on one single task depends upon various factors. Rejuvenating is one of them and very crucial for your mind to work effectively.

Thus, you must allot some time to renew and recharge brain batteries.

Hyperfocus is good to carry out lengthy and difficult jobs in an effective manner. When it comes to creativity, you need something more. Then, recharging batteries are not enough.

So, whenever the event demands some creativity, originality, and inventiveness, you must call for scatterfocus.

You may think daydreaming is an enemy of hyperfocus. Actually, it’s. Remember, a scattered minds and a focused mind can’t go together.

However, daydreaming plays an effective role in scatterfocus. In fact, it’s useful for producing new ideas and creating a blueprint for the future.

The crucial difference between scatterfocus and hyperfocus is time; hyperfocus guides you in completing current projects while scatterfocus too often tackle the future.

Indeed, a wandering mind thinks about 48% time of the future. This future-oriented tendency turns scatterfocus into a useful tool to make plans for the future.

To fully understand the scatterfocus, you need to split it into three kinds of thinking. The first is a capture mode.

In this, you hunt all the thoughts taking space in your head and capture them on paper – thoughts such as unanswered messages, pending chores, calling your loved ones, and unsolved problems. By putting your thoughts down, you are freeing up space to take care of crucial matters.

The second is the problem-crunching mode. Here, you firmly hold one problem in your head and allow thoughts to roam around it. This will help you to generate new solutions, ideas, and angles to look through the problem.

The last is the habitual mode. Your regular thinking comes under this.

This form of thinking occurs while performing repetitive tasks such as ironing, and cleaning. Activities like these require very little attention of your brain thus leave plentiful resources to take care of others matter.

Lesson: C – Scatterfocus helps you to collect information for solving difficult problems

Do you observe a train of thoughts that come while meditation or falling asleep? If so, then surely you are familiar with how annoying it was.

However, think from a creative side, you will find out that these random thoughts can be useful for solving problems. But, where do they come from?

These thoughts come from your brain network. This network activates when you are not focusing on any particular object.

Note that, the key attribute of the brain while resting is to produce random thoughts. Hence, anytime while you are taking a rest or trying to meditate, your brain brings ideas, images, incomplete projects, and old memories on the top of its surface – most likely without any logical pattern.

This happens due to brain tendency. Our brain constantly think about incomplete tasks, unsolved problems, and pending chores work rather than finish projects.

This brain tendency is known as Zeigarnik Effect. This effect says, whenever you left the project in the middle; your brain puts it in the background and starts working on it.

So, whenever it finds a piece of relevant information or detail, it unconsciously links this detail with the background problems and comes up with surprising solutions.

You can too implement this strategy and bring brilliant ideas to solve your concerns. For this, create a routine to jot down your problems on a piece of paper and review them daily.

Reading this list on a regular basis will place the concerns in the foreground of the brain and help them to connect with new ideas, experiences, and thoughts.
