In this book, you will learn four lessons:

Lesson: A – Successful networkers are not selfish but loyal and generous

Lesson: B – Good networkers search for shared interest to build connection

Lesson: C – Good Networkers have pleasant talk and include a unique message in every conversation

Lesson: D – Creating a plan to achieve your goals and build networks

Lesson: A – Successful networkers are not selfish but loyal and generous

A person who makes a lot of good connections knows that it is not about what he can get from others but what he can offer to others. Hence, he never asks “How can others help me?” but always asks “How can I help others?”

The thought process is that people who are eager to assist others will receive more assistance in exchange. The truth is, generosity establishes understanding and trust between each other.

It also deepens our connections, and in due course, this generosity will allow you to harvest more than what you have planted.

Moreover, relationships are not an infinite commodity, and with every withdrawal, it diminishes. You must view relationships as a muscle that develops and gain strength as you use them.

Some people will go through life powerless because they are neither supportive nor generous and work things in a way to get their benefit. As they are selfish, everyone avoids working with them.

Moreover, the manner in which they act pushes other people away from them, as a result, most of the time, they are alone.

To break your self-oriented view, you need to care for others and show faithfulness to them. Doing this will also deepen your relationship and strengthen your connection.

Loyalty can come in many forms, for instance, by giving emotional support especially when an individual is experiencing a tough time, or by giving your time for resolving someone’s problems. Hence, contribute half an hour to make people life better.

Doing so will also help you to make life-long connections.

Lesson: B – Good networkers search for shared interest to build connection

It doesn’t matter the amount of time you give to them, but what matters is the quality of time you spend with them.

In fact, quality time defines the depth of your connection and makes close associates. You should carefully pay attention to the factors that are common between you and your acquaintances.

These are similar activities or interests between the two of you and are one form of relationship glue that can turn a new friend into an old friend. Basically, it is something that both of you love to do. It may be collecting stamps, playing baseball, ocean surfing, and sky-diving.

Indeed, we are more comfortable, calm, and approachable outside of our office hours and formal events. Hence, the best time to know others is on events when they are having fun.

On these events prepare yourself to connect with new acquaintances and have a conversation with them. To do this follows one crucial rule which is to avoid doing small talk and be attentive, open, and honest with another person.

Start your conversation with something interesting as this will help the other parties to recall you and look forward to the future interaction.

Lesson: C – Good Networkers have pleasant talk and include a unique message in every conversation

Everyone you meet for the first time asks this question in one form or another, “Would I want to spend an hour with this person at dinner?”

The truth is someone will never be able to make life-long connections and attain success if nobody talks, listens, or spends time with him.

So, in every interaction, your main goal is to hold the interest of another person. For this, you need to take care of two things. The first is to communicate something.

Thus, you must be able to start and fuel your discussion on various topics such as sports, politics, and travel. The next is to incorporate a unique note in your conversation.

So, if you really want to impress others, you must have more than a pleasant conversation. You would have something special to communicate that separates you from others.

The message you communicate with your words will induce others to become the member of your connections. It can be anything such as a habit, skill, or idea.

No matter whatever your message is, but it must communicate something that you are an expert of. Now, how you become an expert and incorporate the unique message in your communication depends on you.

Lesson: D – Creating a plan to achieve your goals and build networks

Without an effective plan, it is almost impossible to become a good networker, thus, create a network action plan(NAP). This plan will guide you in attaining your networking goal  and provide you a clear step-by-step guide so that you can incorporate it in your day-to-day routine.

A good plan encourages you to stay on track and works towards your goal. The starting step of a network action plan is to determine your short, middle, and long-term goals.

Hence, make a three years milestone and find out activities to do in every day, week, and month. It will create a driving force that compels you to take action and fulfills your goal.

Moreover, it allows you to view your goal and identify people you need to meet, the information you need to grasp, and the tools you require in your journey.
